Herbivore - Japanese Vegetarian/Vegan

I just finished my school activity and was due to an Indian festival I was vegetarian, so my dad and I went to a Japanese place in Fortune Center called Herbivore. Herbivore serves pure vegetarian cuisine prepared in Japanese and Western-style. Their menu is specially crafted to offer a wide variety of choices using the finest and fresh natural as well as organic ingredients. Having the vision to create the first vegetarian restaurant in Singapore, prompted Mr. Ho CS and the Japanese Chef Mr. Yasui Masa to form Zen Japanese Vegetarian Restaurant in March 2010.

Fortune Center is a building near the Buddhist and Indian temples close to Bencoolen MRT. They are famous for their vegetarian restaurants and stores where you can get Buddhist items like incense, statues, and other pieces.

Herbivore serves vegetarian and vegan food. A vegan diet excludes all meat and animal products (meat, poultry, fish, seafood, dairy, and eggs), whereas a vegetarian diet excludes meat, poultry, and seafood. However, there are a few variations of a vegetarian diet that depend on whether you eat or exclude eggs, dairy and fish.

Food

I tried the crispy floss sushi. The rice is very delicate but packed in a way it will not fall. The floss was really good. This is not traditional Japanese, but something Singaporean.

The inari was really nice. The rice was shaped perfectly in the tofu skin. The rice in an inari is traditionally sweeter than normal sushi rice and this was the same taste as an inari you will find in Japan.

The miso ramen soup was really nice. It was flavorful. The tofu and spinach had a little crunch.

The main dish was the unagi set: the potato salad was creamy. The veggies were soaked in sauce and tasted amazing. the daikon salad was amazing. The unagi tasted like the real thing!

The unagi was made from tofu, seaweed, and a secret ingredient that the restaurant would not reveal.

Ambiance

The ambiance was really nice. it looked formal.

Verdict

The verdict is 5/5! If you are craving a Japanese vegetarian meal, I highly recommend Herbivore.
